attachment-focused therapy for teenagers, couples, and individuals in asheville, nc
individual counseling // online and in-person therapy in asheville and across north carolina
you’re fine. no really! I work with folks who know how to get things done, always follow through, are fiercely independent…and rarely consider themselves. my clients are committed to figuring out this relationship stuff, often reading the latest book or sharing the recent articles with their partner or family to help fix whatever is going on for them. and you…. well, you’re fine. you are kind and forgiving, dedicated to making the world better for the people you love.
and… maybe you’re starting to wonder if you’re not actually fine.
my clients often begin therapy when they can no longer ignore that they want more connection, fun, spontaneity, boundaries, respect, and balance. maybe you want people to start showing up for you, but are terrified to ask for help. you’re at a loss.
together, we’ll figure out how to step out of this pattern so you can start taking care/showing up for yourself. whether you’re experiencing the onset of health issues, reassessing one-sided relationships, or just want this next job/chapter/relationship to be different this time, we’ll lean towards taking up a little more space and living a bit more authentically.
i also help parents who feel lost in knowing how to be in a relationship with or support their teen or young adult.
couples therapy / parenting support / co-parenting support
you used to feel emotionally connected to one another, but somewhere between piles of dirty diapers and paying the bills, you became disconnected. you feel more like roommates, and the only passion you ever feel is the anger, resentment, and anxiety that comes up during arguments over differing parenting styles, logistic, or chores.
i work with couples who are motivated to be in counseling, fearful of the long-term impact that conflict and disconnect will have on their partnership or children. whether it’s navigating differing parenting styles, learning to speak the same language as your partner, or exploring an equitable distribution of labor, we’ll cultivate understanding and connection through the lens of attachment, curiosity, and accountability.
therapy for teenagers in asheville, nc (10+)
your once bright and bubbly child has become a moody and anxious preteen/teen. you try to connect, but they retreat to their room and their face is always in their phone. this can be normal, right? but when you do finally talk, you wince as they list off the ways they just don’t measure up. of course their measuring stick is the completely unrealistic expectations presented by social media. you feel helpless. how do you support them?
i work with adolescents struggling with anxiety and perfectionism. adolescence has always been challenging, but add in non-stop social media and a pandemic, and those struggles have been super-sized. i work to establish a secure, safe, soothing base so that teens can cultivate self-compassion, resiliency and self-acceptance versus perfectionism and self-deprecation.
