hi! i might know how you’re feeling.

the first time I ever went to therapy was after a breakup. i had initiated the split, so why was I so devastated? turns out, it's actually really, really hard to walk away from someone you love. in fact, you'll hear me say that it's one of the toughest decisions you may ever have to make.

not knowing what to expect, I was hesitant and nervous about therapy. thank goodness I stepped out of my comfort zone and asked for help. you can, too.

looking back, I cannot imagine how I would have made it through this tough time and difficult transition without a little guidance and extra support, encouragement, and accountability (shoutout to all the amazing therapists I’ve had in my life). feelings of empowerment, independence, and joy replaced those feelings of shame, sadness, and uncertainty. my path will not be your path. my experiences are not yours.

but I do have some great insight (not to mention professional training) into what you might be going through right now.

i offer individual therapy, couples therapy, relationship support, & emdr therapy in asheville, nc and online therapy across north carolina. i work with individual clients, couples, and polycules through an attachment and developmental lens. in short-i think your relationships to others in the past have impacted how you show up in the world today. i utilize emdr therapy (eye movement desentitization and reprocessing) to address that one-time thing that happened, or to help you process and overcome the ongoing trauma you experienced growing up.

in couples counseling, we'll review this agreement together at our first session, which includes info about our no secrets policy & the contraindications to therapy.

in 2022, i got an itch to engage with my work a little differently. i will never not be a therapist, i just love this work too much. but i wanted to play a bigger role in teaching and supporting more impactful, competent, badass therapists in this world. from this desire, the group practice was born, and i’m lucky to be surrounded by such an intentional team of like minded clinicians.

many people who reach out to the practice may ask about working with me. while I do occasionally take on new clients, most people who contact me work with one of the clinicians on my team.

the strengths of my colleagues can hardly be summarized in a sentence or two. but if you're wondering where I tend to guide people, here’s a snapshot of the kinds of clients each therapist works especially well with. these are clinicians i trust deeply with the clients who come to our practice- and these are the therapists i’d recommend to my own family if that weren’t wildly unethical.

Andrea James - young adults who are struggling to balance work, friends, dating, their parents, laundry. when life feels too overwhelming to handle

Kristen Goossens - new to therapy folks who wonder “how did my life get here?”; teenagers who need someone relatable to talk to

Becky Singer - adhd-ers and men who are skeptical about starting therapy but have been told a few times that maybe they should check it out

Shelby Howell - teenagers needing someone relatable; young women and queer folks who might suspect they are neurodivergent, but who may be suspicious that a diagnosis of such would change anything for them

Alice Berry - i love sending Alice musicians, artists, queer folks who want to do identity work, and people afraid that their grief will never end

Kim Vervain - parents, survivors of emotional abuse, and neurodivergent folks are in such great hands with kim

financial stuff

sessions last for 53 minutes and are billed at $160. i accept BCBS, Aetna, United, and Medcost insurance. i retain a certain percentage of my caseload for sliding scale services-please inquire if needed.

upon request, i happily file out of network claims for my clients so our sessions go towards your out of network deductible. reimbursement rates are dependent upon your individual plan. you will be responsible for the full fee of service at the time of the appointment.

financial surprises = least favorite kind of surprises. please contact your insurance company to best anticipate what you may owe.

logistics

i provide both individual and couples counseling. i do not accept insurance for couples counseling, as this unfortunately is not a covered service.

i work with clients aged 18+ both online in NC and in person in Asheville.

i also offer supplemental EMDR therapy to folks who have a primary therapist who cannot provide this service.
